Annual march established in Melbourne in memory of Stefan Romaniw

In the coastal city of Melbourne, an ethnic schools conference announced the establishment of an annual march in memory of the late Ukrainian Australian activist and community organizer Stefan Romaniw.

Romaniw was a long-time co-chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) and the First Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC).

Stefan, who led the organization in the Australian state of Victoria, was one of the initiators of the 2024 Community Language Schools State Conference, as reported by Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, UWC Vice President, Oceania and Asia.

The Community Languages Australia (CLA), officially known as AFESA – CLA, represents all federations and associations of community language schools at the national level across state and territory levels.

The march in Stefan’s memory will take place in Australia’s second most populous city on the third Sunday of May each year to honor his contributions to the development of community languages in Australia.
